I landed on the waiting list like many of you, but that’s okay, it gives me more time to read feedback and experiences from folks who buy one in the first round.
While we wait, what games do you actually want to play on the Frame when you get yours? Please specify if it’s a VR title or non-VR title (unless it’s a super popular one like Hades or Portal that everyone will recognize).
I went through the Steam store “great on frame” listings as well as the overall VR listings, and IMO it’s quite a mixed bag. There’s fairly good variety but many of the “overwhelmingly positive” titles are relatively old, like even 2017-2022. And many of the newer titles don’t seem to have a lot of players yet.
Of course, if you have no intention of ever buying a Frame or want to discourage others or even hype some other device, please just refrain from commenting. This simply isn’t the thread for you.
Just lapping abulzz’s Targa Florio in Assetto Corsa, or dodging traffic on the Hamburg freeway. Same as always.
Edited to add links.
That’s pretty rad. Do you have a driving wheel and pedal rig? I’ve been contemplating getting one anyway, but if I enjoy racing in VR that will very likely push me into purchasing one.
BeamNG has VR support if you hate yourself and want an express ticket towards motion sickness.

It’s interesting that some of these replies are listing dozens of games that they’ve played, as if dipping into each one and then moving on to another.
In the “flat screen” world I have maybe four favourite games with thousands of hours in each - and I’m not getting the impression that VR people are finding games with that level of interest.
I don’t know about thousands, but I get the impression some of Beat Saber fans have hundreds of hours in that game alone.
Just like with non-VR games I’m sure there’s a lot of variation. Some titles are designed for long branching narratives that invite replay. Some are inherently multiplayer and get most hours from that. Some have endless modes you can play over and over to best your high score. And some have none of those things and just a single definitive ending after 5-20 hours.
I am excited to finally have standalone Beat Saber, as a PC VR only user that never owned a meta device it will be nice to finally take Beat Saber wherever I want.
Chants of Sennaar (a flat game) also just got verified today, so I will probably play that. I think it also might be time to play Half Life Alyx again, maybe I will try playing through the whole thing standalone.
And I will probably also stream some of the other games I have been playing (Resident Evil Requiem, 007 First Light, and finally playing the Indiana Jones DLC).
Why would highly reviewed games being older be a bad thing? Those are the most likely to run well on Frame.
Older games are awesome and cheaper than grabbing something right at release. If anything, something being newer gives me more pause since the issues haven’t been worked out.
Oh 100% I’m a longtime Patient Gamer so I know exactly what you mean. I just meant to say that playing older games (as in maybe 5-10 years after release) tends to be a different experience than something released maybe 2-3 years ago that happened to hit a deep discount. The tech landscape changes and maybe now you can fully max out the settings, including high res texture mods and an ENB that weren’t possible before, that sort of thing.
Or maybe you can’t do any of that so it feels a bit crusty and letterboxed, that happens too.
I’ve already got a pretty large library, so I’ll give some recommendations (mostly older as haven’t had much time of late). All PCVR as I prefer buying on Steam:
-
Synthriders - rhythm game like beat saber but more dance focused
-
Dirt Rally 2.0 - not sure what the status of sim racing on Linux (and the Frame currently) but a great experience if you’re at all into racing
- Automobilista 2 - similar quality but track instead of rally-focused
-
Doom 3 Fully Possessed Mod - Doom 3 mod. I never really enjoyed the original game but in VR it’s a lot of fun (and scary). Looks like the github repo has gone, so not sure where to find it today
-
Eleven Table Tennis - Just what it appears to be, a nice table tennis again with somewhat realistic physics. Suprisingly fun.
-
Half-Life 2: VR Mod - For when you’ve played Alyx to death and want something similar. A greater challenge as well since it wasn’t designed as an intro to VR.
-
Ragnarock - Another rhythm game that has a kind of viking drumming motif with a more rock/metal focused soundtrack
-
Sniper Elite VR - A bit janky but feels like an oldschool WW2 game but in VR. Maps are a lot smaller than the mainline series though, likely due to standalone limitations.
-
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners - This one has had controller issues with the open source Linux stack, but hopefully it will work well with the Frame. Semi-open world survival horror game with fun combat being the main draw. There’s also a sequel/DLC but I haven’t gotten to it yet.
-
Crysis VR - The original Crysis in VR. The game in flat never really grabbed me, but is a lot more compelling as a VR game (although I’m a bit more prone to nausea with this one). See: https://crysis.vrmods.eu/
-
UEVR mods - A bunch of games with unreal engine support this. A bit of a pain to setup and the quality of the experience varies, but opens up a lot of conventional games. See: https://uevr-profiles.com/
EDIT: I also suggest digging into the Steam Workshop mods for Alyx. There’s a lot of good content there, and you get the fantastic Alyx engine and gunplay.
EDIT 2: I’ll throw in a recommendation for this bundle: https://www.digiphile.co/collections/vr-games-showcase-the-new-essentials as it looks to have some well regarded games (Into the Radius 2 and Convrgence in particular)
Doom 3 Fully Possessed Mod … so not sure where to find it today
Someone managed to fork it and update a little more:
-
I’m really excited about playing Hellish Quart in VR. I haven’t played the non-VR version because I’m not interested in button mashing.
Long story short, I’m in the SCA, so I do a fair bit of sword fighting, though not fencing. Wanting to see how well VR can do it.
Other VR titles I’m looking forward to are Half Life: Alyx, Skyrim VR, Fallout VR, Boneworks, and I still need to see if there’s a VR mod for Kingdom Come Deliverance because if there’s one that’d likely be good too
I’ve only played Hellish Quart flat, and yeah it is ridiculous that way. I’m looking forward to trying it more seriously in VR. Really curious how it will feel when nothing is stopping your arm from moving when the sword stops.
I have been building a backlog of both VR-native and VR-moddable games. I already own an Index and a Quest 3S. The latter I bought second-hand on the cheap and it really sold me on SteamVR streaming over WiFi. I have been waiting for the Frame in order to get a “modern VR” experience (wireless, pancake lenses, higher resolution, inside-out tracking, foveated rendering).
Native
- Metro Awakening
- Arizona Sunshine 2
- The 7th Guest VR
- TaVRn’s Takedown
- FlatOut 4 VR
- G-Rebels
Moddable
- Resident Evil 7 & 8
- Dead Island 2
- Ready or Not
- Nuclear Option
And then there are the oldies but goodies. I’ll likely return to Half-Life: Alyx for a 4th playthrough, and also have another go at Moss Book I & II. BeamNG.drive will definitely be back on the menu for various driving shenanigans, and Dungeons of Eternity for some multiplayer dungeon crawling.
I had an hp reverb g2 before Microsoft killed it. I’m using the frame to get back into VR after all that time.
I’m looking to use big screen again occasionally. I’ll probably see where VRchat is at nowadays. I never finished half life alyx so I’ll be doing that. Tabletop simulator I believe supports VR so that’ll be neat to try.
I also have a handful of games in my steam wishlist that I’ll start checking out. These are all relatively old because I stopped keeping up with VR while I didn’t have a headset:
- Rocking legend - https://store.steampowered.com/app/1260800/Rocking_Legend/
- I was going to look at medal of Honor above and beyond but it’s still mixed in the reviews so maybe not - https://store.steampowered.com/app/1402320/Medal_of_Honor_Above_and_Beyond/
- Trover saves the universe - https://store.steampowered.com/app/1051200/Trover_Saves_the_Universe/
- hello puppets VR - https://store.steampowered.com/app/1426280/Hello_Puppets_VR/
- new retro arcade: neon, I actually played this on a console and thought it’d be fun in VR - https://store.steampowered.com/app/465780/New_Retro_Arcade_Neon/
- the walking dead: saints and sinners - https://store.steampowered.com/app/916840/The_Walking_Dead_Saints__Sinners/
Edit: oh I forgot I used to play dirt rally 2 in VR all the time, that was great. I think they stopped supporting VR in their newer games so I’ll probably just stick with that one.
I also had a reverb G2. Ms killed it but the Oasis driver brought it back on windows!
I’m surprised nobody has mentioned Into the Radius 1 & 2.
I was gonna but you just did.
No Mans Sky
I’ll want to try it out, but honestly NMS was a huge disappointment for me when I played though it about 2 years ago. I’m definitely interested in space/flight titles in VR though.
In that case, have you tried Elite: Dangerous?
Tried Elite:D sorta briefly, yes. Not on my current higher-end machine though, that was the old (but decent) rig. The game felt too dry, and I say that as someone who even likes the Star Trek TNG episodes where Picard argues the details of Starfleet policy versus interplanetary diplomacy, heh.
But I definitely got the impression that VR would be a huge boost so I definitely wanna give the title another shot.
CORRECTION: It wasn’t my own impression, I deserve no credit. It was this editorial by Lee Hutchinson that put Elite VR on my gaming bucket list.
If they every stop breaking OpenXR every update… 🫤
All VR titles:
Beat Saber
Moss
MOTHERGUNSHIP Forge
Tinertia
Ragnarock
Various racing games with my wheel
Zone of the Enders 2
Rez Infinite
Redout
Hellblade
Psychonauts Rhombus of Ruin
Vox Machinae
Thumper
Thrasher
Bocce Time (I like Bocce Ball, sue me)
Doom VFR
Metal: Hellsinger VR
Half Life AlyxOf note, Metal: Hellsinger VR is that far down the list because it’s apparently a bit brutal for people new to VR. Very fast movement, not for weak stomachs. So I’ll be trying that after I’ve gotten used to VR a bit. I will also play some flat games, but I have no idea what offhand yet. Only time will tell!
Wait, Mothergunship has VR support? I’m surprised anyone even knows this game exists…
I’ll have to look into that. Mothergunship is awesome.
Have you tried vr hot?
I’ve never played anything in VR. This will be my first VR headset and first VR experience in general.
Great list! I’ll have to check out some of the unfamiliar titles.
I forgot about that Psychonauts game, awesome!
Metal: Hellsinger does sound fun but yeah I’m a VR newbie too so I’ll save that one till I have more experience so I don’t get sick or punch a wall lol
Hellblade was pretty psychologically abrasive on a regular monitor (and not fun IMO), might have to skip a replay of that in VR though.
I have a bunch of games I want to play when I get back into VR gaming.
- Blade & Sorcery
- Tales of Glory
- Skyrim VR
- Surgeon Simulator
Games I don’t have
- Rumble
- Payday: High Aces
- Gunman’s Contracts
Rumble is really fun. If you haven’t tried it yet I think you could enjoy broken edge.
Does it feel like you’re earthbending?
Half-life Alex. One genre i suppose will be Eurotruck Simulator 2, and American Truck Simulator. I have around 150 VR games, so i’ll be revisiting a lot of experiences like arcades, pinball, bowling, golf and other physical games like BoxVR and Beatsaber. I also love sword fighting games, rpg’s, etc. Also looking to play around with the colored pass-thru camera from Arcturus, but that will be bare bones for some time as people start making applications for that medium. Also normal flatscreen/pancake games. I’ll be mostly streaming from my more powerful PC to the headset. Don’t downplay older games either, there’s some decent quality games out there. Just because a game isn’t listed as “great on frame” doesn’t mean you can’t play them.
Honestly I haven’t really looked into many VR games other than Alyx and Beat Saber. I’ll figure it out when it gets here LOL.
I’m also very intrigued by the whole “spacial computing” thing.
I’m also very intrigued by the whole “spacial computing” thing.
I certainly hope to get a lot of use out of the Frame as a glorified monitor for basic computing tasks, but from what I can tell reading reviews and whatnot, it’s not all that great compared to the Apple VR thing. I sure want to give that a fair shot, though.
Year I don’t expect it to be as good as the Apple one
That’s pretty much my plan. I’m saving some of these comments for later, but basically yeah. I’ve played beat saber on friends systems before and FRIGGIN LOVE IT. Like, I’m legitimately concerned about how much time I’ll spend on it 😅
And I wanted to play alyx but nobody has it. So that’ll be my first foray into “real” VR gaming
It is so exciting how many first time headset owners are in this thread, really hoping this will bring and keep more people in VR.
I think the whole wired lighthouse thing kept me away…
I’ve been looking for a wireless one for years that’s not made by Zuckerfuck
It’s definitely the wired lighthouse that’s the problem, for me. And the PCVR requirement instead of option.
My brother in law bought a system, I don’t remember which, vive maybe? Somewhere around covid. He used it a bit, and then all the parts sat in his basement in a pile. For years. I guess it just wasn’t for him. He lives several minutes from me, and repeatedly offered it to me, to at least set up and use long term, but I never had a good place to set it all up, and then when I did move into a new place, I still didn’t want the hassle.
That sounds crazy I know. Maybe even privileged, but like, I just didn’t want to mess with it.
But now I’ll have the option to use the frame whenever and wherever I am. Wire free. Lighthouse free. PC free. Meta free.
He used it a bit, and then all the parts sat in his basement in a pile. For years.
This is very very common with VR haha. Mostly because it has very few practical uses and is cumbersome to start up.
