Rust is so dangerous it has even infected computers and several programmers’ brains
This is why antioxidants are good, right? /s
I don’t know why you’re adding /s to a literal fact. Yes age is a form of cellular oxidation, yes that’s why anti-oxidants are said to prevent/slow aging:
When oxygen was first released during the great oxygenation event, it killed all other life on earth.
100% of people who breathe this die.
100% of people
who breathe thisdie.I happen to know multiple people who haven’t died.
But they will, eventually. Even if only at the heat death of the universe.
Nah I’ll survive mrrrreow meow, I’ll simply become THE ENERGY and survive
This is why i smoke.
Dihydrogen monoxide is like that too. 100% of the people who drink it die. And it’s even deadlier when inhaled, it only takes a relatively small amount.
It’s worse than that! When we breath in the oxygen goes into our blood. You know what else is in that blood? Iron! It’s literally rusting our blood!
Oxygen makes up a full third of dihydrogen monoxide which kills thousands of people a year.
It’s well over a third by mass…
Doesn’t matter, I’m not Christian

Unironically, oxidative stress shortens your telomeres and therefore, your lifespan.
Please correct me if I’m wrong because I might be ridiculously wrong, but isn’t it that the oxygen is the reason we’re wilting with age like plants?
Partly yea, unbound oxygen is very excitable and is capable of causing DNA dmg! But everything damages your DNA! Light, heat, viral/bacterial infections, time, stress… Everything!
But you can limit the very first one with anti-oxidants, which is strictly not capable of doing anything else but binding unbound oxygen! Ripe bananas contain a bunch of them
We’re not the first organisms to alter the atmosphere and cause a mass extinction. The first ones were cyanobacteria and the gas they released was oxygen. They caused
a decrease in the size of the biosphere of >80%
We’re descended from the survivors that adapted to a high-oxygen environment but to this day there are many microorganisms that die if exposed to even small amounts of oxygen.
The great oxidization is what your referring to. It’s pretty impressive. It caused like 90% death to all life, and then life adapted and here we are. It rusted the shit out of the planet too.
