The only reason I bought a Pixel is for GrapheneOS and the only reason my SO has one is also GrapheneOS.

I would choose a rail option over flight even if it’s 50% longer. But even in West-Europe where Highspeed rail is well developed, it’s quite hard to find international rail options :(

First, BACKUP EVERYTHING.

Then, the best distro is probably going to be the same you are currently using. You will not have to deal with issues that may be specific to one distro. There is enough difference from one computer to another to cause annoying issues, even on windows.

After exploring options such as Fusion360 and SOLIDWORKS I ended up making a free account on onshape. It’s web-based and works flawlessly on Firefox and Linux. I should try a bit more FreeCAD, but lack motivation.

• Set a decently good password (password is required frequently on Linux, so do go overboard with a 40-random-characters-long password, you will regret it)
• don’t install programs or run scripts from shady sources, prefer to install programs from the Software store (package manager and flatpak)
• setup a backup system to regularly copy all your files to a separate storage device. This is the way to protect yourself from ransomware but also user errors! Having the possibility to format your drive, reinstall and restore backup in a 1 hour time span is going to give you the peace of mine you need for exploring and experimenting with Linux
