Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Germany plans sugar tax that includes sugar free drinksEnglish
33·6 days agoTaxing sugar is protecting the poor people’s wallets long-term from having to buy Ozempic, surgeries, sneakers for jogging, and fitness trackers.
That’s the real way wealth gets transfered from the bottom to the top - by selling poison AND the treatment for it.
It’s not like authoritarian governments ever lied with their official statistics to prove a point or anything…

Comic Strips@lemmy.world•It’s That Easy [Tommy Siegel]English
25·6 days agoEnvironmentally inclined people feel like they do something and don’t rally against the real problem.
Actually we have already been lobbying and protesting and trying to change the system for decades.
The work might not be visible, but it’s due to resource constraints, not because we are delusional and think that decreasing global CO2 emissions by 0.000000027% will fix the biodiversity loss.
Having friends is bad OPSEC!
Signal people have already explained why they refuse federation.
Basically, looking at history of federated messaging protocols (SMS and email), they are permanently frozen in time, and haven’t had security improvements for decades.
Signal team considers this tradeoff unacceptable, as highly targeted individuals rely on Signal to always keep it’s security model up-to-date against the most capable adversaries.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•It's about logic and not "feelings"English
5·11 days agoGeesh, only checks note $5,000? You people are so greedy these days
I live in a car and sell my body on the streets so I can cover my friend’s college tuition.
If you don’t help your best friend with everything you can, are you really his best friend? or is he just some dude thats chill to hang out with?

81·11 days agoI want to leave Windows because regular W10 and W11 are trash.
You are really going to like Linux Mint Cinnamon then. It’s basically Windows but isn’t annoying or hates it’s users

6·11 days agoHistory ended sometime around 1990. It was determined at that time that civilization could not substantially change any further, for better or worse
Life did get substantially worse since 1990 though?
Mass surveillance, rise of tech billionaire class, unprecedented political polarization, KYC-rollout in banks.
Ecological crisis is accelerating with tens of thousands of dead in Europe due to recent heatwaves.
edit: also Germany, Japan, Russia and China openly remilitarizing after 80 years of relative peace. This is really bad.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•I could quit AI anytime I want toEnglish
2·19 days agoI have seen multiple of those Windows debloater scripts online, but I struggle to understand which one is legit and which could be malware
62% home ownership in 1960’s for much smaller homes (on average 700 sqft) vs 65% now for an average of 2000sqft
62% -> 65% sounds reasonable.
700 sqft on average -> 2000 sqft on average is suspicious though. It’s possible stats got skewed by the top 1%, who are today richer than ever before, and own ridiculous amount of property. Median sqft perhaps would be more representative

Comic Strips@lemmy.world•Your bad art is better than AI slop [Sophie Labelle]English
41·23 days agoI might not be able to tell every time something is AI. That’s true.
But if a person has put zero effort making sure it doesn’t look like AI, then I have every right to call that out.
If you cheat, at least be smart about it and not get caught.
