Privacy@lemmy.ml•Leave Windows 11 Idle For 24 Hours, It Sends Over 3000 Telemetry Pings To More Than 100 Different Servers.
1·10 days agoIf you value privacy, fuck off into the woods at this point. It’s looking pretty likely increasingly invasive spying laws will get approved in many different countries.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you find the best products to buy for everything?
2·11 days agoProject Farm is highly reliable on YouTube. If the exact model Todd tested is no longer available, use your best judgement.
Way too small to be a coyote. Even the smallest coyotes are at least 3ft/1m long and weigh around 30lbs/13kg.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What games meet this criteria?
1·12 days agoCore Keeper might fit the bill. Very similar to Terraria, but closer to isometric instead of a side scroller. Randomly generated world divided into staggered biomes with handmade “scenes” spawned in to add interesting things to find.
The collapse is already in process. So I guess that’s one nice thing - it’s already here, you don’t have to be worried about it beginning. Trump 1 destabilized a lot of things combined with COVID and Trump 2 following a limp Biden admin has finished the job. Pax americana is dead, and the world as we knew it relied on that status quo.
I don’t know what’ll follow, whether in America or abroad, but we’ll all still be here and life will keep going. Don’t let it keep you down. If reading the news keeps getting you down, then stop reading the news for a while. Filter your feeds to show only happy things, or just disengage from social media entirely. Algorithms are designed to drive engagement and anger is proven to be the most reliable form of engagement, so social media is just an anger factory anymore. Disconnecting from it for a while can be good for your mental well-being.
There’s still plenty of joy and hope and happiness to be found in life. Sometimes you might need to turn down the volume on other things to find it, though.

6·14 days agoThe downside is obviously you get zero natural light. And your neighbors might think you’re weird, but they’re roasting while you’re not so fuck em.
You could probably tape the foil to a piece of cardboard cut to size and that would make it easy to remove once the sun isn’t shining straight at your window and put it back before morning. I don’t know if the cardboard would affect it, however.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Leave Windows 11 Idle For 24 Hours, It Sends Over 3000 Telemetry Pings To More Than 100 Different Servers.
2·14 days agoI’m aware of that. What all the linux fanboys here are failing to understand is that wiping out an old OS and replacing it with something new that you’ll have to learn how to use is something that takes effort and currently is unnecessary.
W11 currently works okay. I can still easily disable the annoying things and push off nonessential updates. I don’t need to replace it. Yet. If that changes, then I can go through the process to replace it. But there’s no reason for me to do so yet.
Linux fanboys proselytize more aggressively than evangelists do.

59·15 days agoMy reason is really simple: replacing Windows with Bazzite or whatever would be a lot of effort. If W11 ever bricks itself or does something hideously invasive (that I can’t disable or opt out of) then it becomes less of an effort than maintaining the status quo, and thus switching becomes the obvious choice.
Most of the actually good games don’t need strong hardware.

I guess I’d have to check my habits but I bet 300 searches would easily last me a month. Half of my “searches” are me just going to look up the thing on Wikipedia anyhow. If you’re using web search professionally though, I can see 300 barely lasting a couple days.
I’m not sure how to feel about an AI heavy service talking about privacy. They feel mutually exclusive to me.
