World News@lemmy.world•China says Australia must accept Taiwan reunification or face ‘no forgiveness’English
3·5 months agoIn this context, where the Australia is literally a imperial colony of the largest empire in the history of the world
It’s a mixed situation after Federation. Historically, Australia (the state) was founded as a British colony, and we legally are still part of the Commonwealth under their king, and also the US has significant influence over Australia, but we’ve seen Australia has demonstrated its own capacity for imperialism in the region.
This doesn’t negate your point at all, it’s just something which is often forgotten.
I suggest people interested in this read the existing aussie.zone discussions on this bill as well.
I’ve already seen some misconceptions being thrown out by title-skimming knee-jerking international readers, so one thing to emphasise is that this recent (proposed) bill adds nationality to the list of protected categories (which already included race, religion and ethnicity). For various reasons, it’s reasonable to assume parts of this bill were written with criticism of the ongoing Zionist Regime in mind.
In Australia? The White Rose Society is the main public face of antifascist research, they had this page:

They help. But they aren’t enough. Community organising is essential to complement them where the law can’t reach.
Yep, most likely as ununiformed “active clubs” similarly to how they started. It’s the dominant neo-Nazi strategy internationally.
I’m not sure if it shows up on all Lemmy apps, so also check the aussie.zone/c/australia crosspost for more info.
Also, reminder that the government’s Special Envoy’s Plan to Combat Antisemitism did fuck-all to combat these scum, even after they made openly antisemitic speeches in a (police approved) flash mob outside of Sydney state parliament, instead they’ve targeted the pro-Palestine protests.
Sufficient government action has been many years overdue, but better this than more waiting. Next step is to crush their “active clubs”, because everyone knows they’re not going to simply disappear.
We will see how this impacts the upcoming Invasion Day marches more interesting, as the March for Australia counterprotest has already had members of the NSN show up as organisers, marshals and plain clothes stooges in the audience.

World News@lemmy.world•Mandatory jail term for Nazi salute under new hate crime rules in AustraliaEnglish
1·1 year agoIt’s kinda weird to sort of start rolling back to where some type of conservatism is actually a good thing.
For what it’s worth, politics is more complex than conservation and change. The status quo is what got us here, so we must to better than merely conserve.

I’m glad it acknowledges explains the impacts of anti-fingerprinting measures. I’ve seen some others assume that a random canvas is unique rather than one of the many people randomising it the same way, leading to a false “unique” assessment.
