  • Ah, doesn’t sound TOO bad. I was legitimately prohibited from using any vegetables in my sauces. Sauce had to be just the meat, cream, melted cheese to thicken it up and it had to be a store-bought mix for flavor. Like those Maggi ones, 4 cheese mix, carbonara mix, etc. No experimenting. Even tomatoes were a no-go.

Needless to say, I let her do the cooking because I found it depressing. When she was away, I’d make a nice curry or chilli… Or, like you, a steak, which I prefer medium rare (though sometimes rare is nice too).

  • I’m not a USian, but I do know how their jury duty works. Yeah, it’s been over a decade since I last went to history class, I’d completely forgotten about this system and I guess I don’t think outside of the box enough to come up with it myself. There are some negatives I can think of, but some few positives too.

Here’s my biggest concern, and I’m hoping that maybe you have an answer: Outside of the US, MOST people who get into politics are at least decently educated. MOST voters prefer intelligent and well-educated candidates. Most of them, not all of course. If everyone is eligible and there’s no filtering happening, a bunch of honest to god dumbfucks might be chosen by random chance. You COULD give it an education requirement, but then a lot of otherwise intelligent and well-meaning people who didn’t finish school for one reason or another, are disqualified. IQ tests can have unwanted cultural, racial and socioeconomic biases. How do you make sure that there aren’t too many ridiculously unqualified people chosen, without outright imposing requirements that could be unfair?

  • They’re really not, but not everyone needs them.

If you’re bordering type 2 diabetes and carbs just make your blood sugar shoot up and crash down, reducing or eliminating carbs can get your shit back in check without medication, and make it much easier to reduce your calories (since you don’t feel compelled to stuff your face again because of shaky hands)

  • The entire thing is fake sadly, however, I’d totally do that with my child if I felt the need to put parental controls on their devices. For now, though, it’s not even an issue (too young for any smart devices) and idk, I grew up without parental controls and I’m fine - I’d say everyone needs to play Runescape and get scammed of their most valuable belongings, it makes skepticism come more naturally.

I’d just recommend Pop!_OS then. NVidia drivers can come preinstalled if you need them (not that it’s super hard to install on Ubuntu) and no Snap bullshit - anything you install via apt uses a deb, instead of sneakily installing a snap. Flatpak still remains an option and you CAN install snaps if you want to. COSMIC as it is now, is GNOME reconfigured a bit to be a bit keyboard-friendlier and will soon be replaced by COSMIC the brand new desktop environment. Otherwise it’s fairly similar to Ubuntu.

Also, Kubuntu or Mint are Ubuntu with an UI that is more familiar to someone coming from Windows. They work more or less the same.
