I imagine that was true for Lemmy’s similar functions in the past (referred to in this thread)

These aren’t specific community *blocks (they’re not blocks as such). They’re keywords. It jus so happens that “196” was a community as well, although that has now been removed.

This isn’t a “block” as such. You can still view meme and 196 content and 196 from piefed.social. As another user said:
"The code that OP has linked to is part of a convenience function for admins to add content to their new instances. It can query individual remote instances (e.g. lemmy.world), or it can query lemmyverse.net, and fetch communities that look to be popular and active.
It’s completely unrelated to routine federation, and doesn’t prevent anyone subscribing to communities that may have those words in their names."

You just try to go to the community from that instance, and it’ll say “community not found” and you just click it. Then someone local needs to subscribe to it for new content from there to federate.

You’re wrong. Rimu has never expressed any objection to pro-LGBT sentiment and has even done interviews in regards to that. I have seen him ban people for anti-LGBT bigotry. This particular ruleset looks like a copy and paste from the retention rules that piefed.social currently has that doesn’t save data from communities after 6 months. (RImu doesn’t have a high opinion of meme-themed content and believes it to be a drain on server storage).
I agree all of it should be optional, and I believe it currently is anyway as instance owners can revert this.

I don’t at all like, nor agree with the current USA administration rhetoric or potential plans towards Venezuela - but that doesn’t have any relevance whatsoever to Chinese aggression and antagonism towards Taiwan, nor the fact that the Taiwanese - from their perspective - have way more to fear from China than the USA.
Two things can be bad.

China is a nuclear power. With a much larger population than the USA. What exactly do you imagine the hypothetical war-goals would be here?

You think the USA is going to start an aggressive boots-on-ground assault on China?

The majority in Taiwan have always preferred status quo. That’s what happens when you border a much larger neighbour that would see any overt move to officially declare independence (as in rebrand as Taiwan officially) as justification to invade.
That’s just the Taiwanese being self-aware to notice large power disparities and not wanting to rock the boat. Actual unification support with China polls about in the 10-15%. Lower than the “move to independence” bloc.

Not sure how threatening forceful unification every few months comes under “being nice”.
From an instance admins perspective, yes.
Otherwise it’s about on-par at a community moderation level. It has a few other things but they don’t present as viewed from Lemmy, mitigating their utility at the moment.

What does this post have to do with the admins of lemmy.world? The original poster of this thread is from piefed.ca.

I’d note that the same phenomenon exists on Reddit. You’d be surprised how many subreddits on a site much larger are maintained purely by the power of a few posters who feed the community with posts.
I’d also argue that television and movies on piefed.social, per activity, are much more active than what you suggest there.

Absolutely fine. I can interact much better with the fediverse on here except search. I find Lemmy does search functions better currently.

You can find Charlie Kirk memorial events almost all over the world. Do you think this is somehow reflective of how all South Koreans think?
but those who stand for nothing because their lives revolve around superficial stuff, consumerism and hedonism, will fall for anything.
This is an accusation often thrown at secularists, and liberals - who are not normally Charlie Kirk fans - so your logic doesn’t make sense here.
Oi, cool it. I don’t want to just expel someone from piefed.social for that - but don’t be hurling comments like that.
