That, plus I think its to get you more invested. Like if you have the app on your phone you might want to use it again, or youll forget about it and then see it later and think about their product/service/whatever.

In the modern age so many things that should just be websites are apps and many things that should be apps/programs are websites

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Steam Deck plugin adds AMD FSR4 support to improve visuals
0·8 months agoFSR4 has been great for me. Performance seems slightly worse than FSR3 but the increase in visual quality is well worth it, particularly because IMO FSR4 on balanced both looks and performs better than FSR3 on quality.
I still avoid it when I can because native rendering will always look best, but this is definitely really nice for steam deck where the hardware is much more limited.
If the US ever bombs/invades another country to (supposedly) stop them from having nukes, we should start saying “nukes dont kill people, people kill people”

Privacy@lemmy.ml•/e/ OS does a little trolling and sends all your Text to Voice data to OpenAI for processing and Speech generation.
2·8 months agoOk, the openAI thing is not great. However…
they advertise themselves as degoogled, but instead let you connect to Google/Microsoft/etc services
What the fuck are you talking about? Degoogled doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be allowed to connect to Google services. It just mean that it doesn’t require Google services to function and that the default configuration shouldn’t include any Google services. If the end user actively wants to use google/microsoft/etc services then they should be able to. It seems as though you are advocating for an open source operating system to lock itself down from allowing the end user to use certain features, which is against the FOSS ethos. Remember, “free” as in “freedom.”

Yep, even though trump is maybe the most populist president the country has seen
