Mac has unified RAM. It can use the system RAM as vRAM. The AI line of AMD processors can kind of due that too. Granted these aren’t as fast as dedicated GPUs, but they’re the most affordable way to get huge amounts of vRAM.
You can blame crypto, you can blame AI, but when it comes down to it everything is worth what people are willing to pay. Clearly companies are pushing that further and further and people keep paying.
There was a generation where it was true at the launch of the console. That’s the period I’m talking about. Beating a 5 year old machine is hardly worth bragging about.
If they were, then you could build a PC for cheaper.

3·8 days agoI only knew one person that had one. He worked for Microsoft.
That was a brief period when consoles were way over priced for the components they had.

81·13 days agoSo, even better argument for auto climate control. Set it once when you first get in your car and are still parked, then leave it. However, yes buttons please. If this meme is about buttons vs touch screen, then I strongly agree with the meme. My vehicle not only has the auto climate, but also it is using buttons. They’re stupid capacitive touch buttons that Hyundai has since switched back away from, but at least they’re always in the same spot and I don’t have to change any screens to access them.

2·13 days agoYeah, my gf does something similar, but opposite. She doesn’t like it going full blast so she turns down the fan which turns off the auto. I think if she had the version I did she would actually use it correctly.

5614·13 days agoHard disagree with this. Climate control has become a must for me since the early 2000s. Set and forget is always better than fiddling with things. And now my current car has three levels of automatic so it doesn’t go full blast at the beginning, it’s amazing.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•They say remote working less productiveEnglish
2·23 days agoThat can certainly depend on the lunch. Usually in the morning I would do idling tasks like checking email and just simple stuff. I would be hungry and mostly just waiting for lunch. Thinking about that now, I wonder if it would be different now that I’m taking GLP1. That’s that “food noise” that gets muted. I would always take the earliest possible lunch and then come back ready to knock some stuff out.

1·1 month agoCorrect. That’s why successful boycotts usually only happen because the company was already in decline. I would argue that the Disney/ABC situation was that.

Yes. I’m not using Debian, but I am doing basically that.
