  • Yeah I tried listening to Hungarian a few times and something in it is similar but I can’t make out even singular words, whereas with German or Spanish I can usually get the gist of what is being said, especially if it’s some simpler thing.

But someone once showed a comparison text with lots of similar words and then I kinda got it better for just the while I was reading it but then nah, lost it.

  • Oh yeah, when you’re speaking Swedish I definitely notice a shift towards it more sounding like E, just like you said.

    I should visit Hungaria sometime.

Apparently our native languages are both Finno-Ugric but man is it far. Like I understand pretty much all the PIE based European languages easier than Hungarian. Although sometimes reading it, I can’t make anything out before I use translate and then I can see the resemblance. But theres definitely large differences.

I would like to visit Budapest someday.

  • cause ä is much closer to enough

You man in like words like älska or älg? Sure that comes of as an “e” more.

I’m Finnish so native is Finnish, which doesn’t really do pronunciation. I know a lot of languages say “they speak it as its written” but it genuinely is mostly true for Finnish. We have “phones” (except one, the velar nasal, used either only ng combination).

If you look at this here wikipedia site

    Or this screenshotcap from it

You’ll see how we use our vowels. I also do speak Swedish, but much less so as there’s never any need to.

The example uses father (but shorter a) to showcase a and then cat and mad as examples of ä.

Okay sure but “å” is actually an “o” sound.

Using “ä” would be way closer. It’s the a you have in crash, ranch dressing, cat.

As compared to to like posh British accent, an American would use more a “gräss”, and British posh person would use a low a graaasss.

And you prolly didn’t even make it and this really doesn’t matter at all, I just spending time

  • But armies wouldn’t be made of rich people.

Also also, it’s either diabetes or the HFCS, but Americans have a very distinct, plump look all around. Whereas here it’s often just a huge belly people have and maybe an extra chin or something.

But not all all around Michelin man.

My dad worked at a theme parn in Finland, driving the guests around in a sort of road-train. And he wasn’t a small man by no means, every gluttonous and always thirsty. Died at 70 that’s how healthy he was.

Anyways, he was shocked and told me that he’d never seen “people shaped like that”.

    No offense.

    Well some probably.

  • It’s not weird at all.

A perfectly natural consequence of laissez-faire capitalism leading what should and shouldn’t be regulated.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food_desert

I find it incredibly weird to imagine that some people think it normal that you can’t walk to a grocery store with fresh vegetables etc.

Never had Doritos or Funyons or Twinkies in my life. I tried Oreos once, but I’m more used to the equivalent we have here (copied and slightly altered by some decades and decades ago.)

I don’t think there’s anything I prefer as the American version. Perhaps like if you use the word to encompass all American countries, maybe, ~authentic Mexican is pretty nice and usually gluten free.

It’s a lot about food deserts and infra and regulation, but also using HFCS instead of some other sugars does have an effect.

Even though we got very gluttonous people as well, somehow ours aren’t just ever as Michelin Man shaped. It’s more like a huuuuge belly with skinny legs and arms and head. Well some diabetic people do tend to swell up quite a bit but…

Edit talking of nachos I fking got some and salsa, thank for the indirect reminder. Although I’m too bothered somehow that they’ve made the chips round instead of triangles.

Edit 2 I’m changing my mind a little as these do get a nice amount of salsa if they’re a little bent
