I swear, that is the hotel room I stayed at in CA. Looks like the Huntington Beach Springhill Suites.

551·8 days agoWeaponized incompetence is malice. They are about power, and it’s a huge display of power to put morons who cannot think for themselves in positions of authority. They know that these people are useful idiots, and they know how much it demoralizes the rest of us.
ACAB isn’t just a slogan, it’s a strategy.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•People who are staying on Plex, have you tried Jellyfin? What about it do you not prefer? (real question)English
13·14 days agoI paid for it ages ago on a deal, and it currently suits my needs. It runs as a docker container and it just works. It’s easy enough for my elderly mom to use remotely and I’ve ripped my entire movie collection for her to watch. I also like the live tv that’s included with the pass.
I would switch in a heartbeat if it wasn’t doing what I need, but so far I have no complaints, it works well for my family’s needs.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•You should consider yourself lucky if you use adblocker and YouTube is still playing videos for youEnglish
2·14 days agoYeah, I’m sure my normal is not regular normal, I’m an old graybeard so my perspective is a bit off.
But a pihole is super easy. Mine runs in a VM in Proxmox now, but I’ve run it on a raspberry pi and as a docker container as well. Well worth a shot.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•You should consider yourself lucky if you use adblocker and YouTube is still playing videos for youEnglish
4·14 days agoI honestly don’t know what I’m doing right, just typical stuff I’d think.
I have a pihole as my dns/dhcp. I use Firefox with enhanced tracking protection turned on, ublock origin and privacy badger.
On my phone I have AdGuard (paid one time license fee).
I still am seeing YouTube without ads. I occasionally have to reload a video, but no showstoppers yet. Only posting my setup in case it help anyone else. Hopefully it’s not instructions for them on what to attack next…

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•I'm looking for a free OS, should it be Debian or Arch Linux(community)?English
2·18 days agoIt takes a bit of time to find the right distro and that is the biggest obstacle to linux imo.
It’s also the greatest benefit. Vanilla stuff works out of the box for most, but once you need more, there’s a paved runway headed in any direction you want to go (some in better shape than others to be fair).
Windows and OS X are certainly wider runways, but there are cliffs off the side of you want to change direction.
Good things usually take time, but you will know where you are when you get there.
Yep, I use Dr. Bronners for everything. Especially when camping, when it’s: hair, face & body, toothpaste, shaving cream, dish detergent, bug repellant, emergency lubricant (stuck stoves, tentpole, etc), laundry soap, and anything else I can find to use it for.

Sorry for the tired gif, but this is my exact reaction.

281·27 days agoIt’s an excellent word, means a timid, meek, or unassertive person. I love it since it sounds like exactly what it is “”milktoast” sounds boring, unappealing, and bland, just like milquetoast people… it’s an effective synonym regardless if intended or not :)

14·1 month agoI have an 86 45 shirt I used to wear during the first term. When the comey bullshit first hit the news, my father called me and told me how I shouldn’t wear violent messages, told me that I’d better watch my back if I wore something like that again. I hung up and ordered an 86 47 shirt. Wearing it today in fact.

6·1 month agoPalantir is hungry.

Yes and no, I only buy refurbs these days, so long as they work out of the box, they have been far more reliable than retail drives from a box store.
Definitely higher incidents of DOA drives, but the ones that work, have been pretty solid.
Still don’t trust spinning rust, so in addition to dual parity raid, I also have a full backup copy. But I no longer have reservations about refurb drives…
