    I’ve been saying for years that the habit of denying services to people on the basis of their reputation and fear that it may blow back onto service providers would lead to wider problems. Back then it was often people on the alt-right being denied services, so those on the left tended not to see any issue - it was a private decision by private company. But private companies are, in our society, an important part of providing the essentials of life, and it’s not good enough that people can be cut off from them for just any reason.

    In the end if we are to make life unpleasant for those in the alt-right, it has to be done by grass-roots efforts, not by companies, because the power to do so will then always end up being wielded against someone it should not.

        Healthcare? No, I don’t think leftists would approve of that, and haven’t heard of it. But things like banking, internet access, or use of hotels? I think that kind of thing has definitely been approved of. The most recent case I remember was when Nigel Farage’s bank was closed - NatWest initially claimed it was because of falling below a funding threshold, but later admitted it was due to his views.

          My bad I got confused, I like paying attention to UK politics because of the ways it is both similarly enraging but also uniquely different, I didn’t mean to comment broadly on it like this though, I don’t live there I just forgot where I was when responding to your specific comment sorry.

          edit here is how I would describe it precisely -> The US and UK are like two rival TV Soap Operas where all of the main characters have the plot arc of Walter from Breaking Bad and the writers are so overworked, underpaid and uninspired that they keep ripping off the plot lines of their rival show to the point that you really can’t tell what the hell is going on anymore.

          Are you watching two discrete TV shows?..or are you watching the same show but in two different parallel universes? Are you watching Mulholland Drive and you are supposed to be this confused of the directions of cause and effect or meaning and result? Have you just lost your mind…? or has reality?
