No, is because it’s total shit. Local-only ones can have some useful application for accessibility, but literally ALL generative LLMs are 100% bad, forever, always.
They add zero actual benefit, and huge amounts of issues.
Probably, but given that AI is terrible in every other way as well, it doesn’t matter. And if will never get close enough to be worth it.
Even if every image was perfect and every reply was perfect, it still wouldn’t make it any good.
Given that capitalism exists, the better it gets at doing what it’s intended for, it makes the other problems far worse.
Right now the absolute best I can say for it (and even this is a huge stretch) is making some menial, non problematic tasks more convenient, and creating certain images easier (aka this post).
Actual AI (not this garbage generative kind like GPT) can be helpful for accessibility that assists people with disabilities, or translation.
But literally everything about the common ones typically discussed is 100% bad.
Hallucinations (just being fucking wrong (remember glue on pizza? Or 2 Rs in strawberry?))
Used by students to cheat assignments
Making the absolute worst people super rich
Messing up industrial economies (computer part prices going through the roof)
Making companies replacing employees with AI will help their bottom line.
The data centers used to run them are absolute garbage to have around, making power and water supplies dwindle and jacking up the prices, making the area noisy af and warmer- all of them can be morally (even if not legally) be destroyed, no matter how much it costs the owners (the more it costs them, the better), totally guilt free (again, moral guilt, not legal guilt)
Technology using it is bad for everyone (Flock cameras, facial recognition).
People relying on it to act as a “chat partner”, worsening emotional problems, with potential behavioral problems stemming from it, or it giving advice to harm themselves.
EVEN IF there are tiny benefits, none of them outweigh even a single problem, much less all of it. And the more it improves, the bigger a problem it becomes, until capitalism ends to take profit out of the list of motivations for it.
It’s also being used to write code, so it’s causing actual damage to software development, too.
Another thing, the better it becomes at everything, the less it seems worthwhile for people to get into any of the fields it’s replacing, and since skilled human output will always be better than AI output, the reasons are pretty obvious.
I’m a perfect world, making a bear perfect AI would free people up to pursue their own passions with more time to dedicate to them. But this can never happen under capitalism, ever. And seeing that no one alive’s descendants down to 10 generations loving to see are likely to see even a glimpse of that possibility starting to change, then it should be completely and entirely scrapped and banned until such time that it becomes even a potential possiblity of any actual benefit at ALL.
We should all be using AI, as much as possible, but never ever paying a single cent for it. They’re investing trillions and not one of them has made a profit off it yet. Let’s keep it that way.
This is not funny enough to justify using AI.
I hope it’s just a good photo shop. AI is really killing the too much effort photoshop meme.
Absolutely
Why should AI not be used?
Is it because AI ownership is heavily concentrated on the hands of a few and such tech needs to be publically owned?

If it’s the quality, then it may improve, right?

Should not then the point be on making AI come under state control and removing capitalist dominance on state and AI?

Unfortunately that gives them training data.
And brings the planet closer to destruction.
