They need to solve paying creators and also what happens when if they get big. How do they scale. Hate YouTube all you want it costs a lot of money to run it and I don’t see federated service replacing it. Also the fact everything us still up there I see that being hard in federation.
I don’t think it needs to be solved, the motivate people to support through other means and have a dedicated support button. Sponsorships are also a thing.
Regarding scaling, as the name implies, PeerTube makes use of Peer-to-Peer technology to reduce the load of platforms and it’s federated without an “official” instance, which allows content creators to spread across different instances, spreading the load it comes with.
