The suspected gunmen in the Bondi Beach attack threw explosives at the start of the deadly incident and had practised shooting weeks before, according to new court documents.
They allege the pair “meticulously” planned the attack for months and, two days prior to the shooting, visited Bondi for reconnaissance.
Fifteen people were killed and dozens more injured when two gunmen opened fire on a Hanukkah celebration on 14 December. Explosives, including a “tennis ball bomb”, failed to detonate, the documents said.
Naveed Akram, 24, has been charged with 59 offences, including 15 counts of murder and one of terror. A second gunman - his father, Sajid Akram - was shot dead by police at the scene.
In an unfortunate naming coincidence, every single time I see something about the Bondi gunmen I get briefly excited before realizing “Nope, not that Bondi.”
Phonetically both are beaches.
Sometimes I question if we’re living in a matrix controlled by AI and that this was caused by a hallucination because of the naming coincidence. Like they meant to enact another scenario instead but screwed it up.

- Their shoddy explosives failed to detonate
- Their position on the bridge offered little coverage for the assailants (once armed engagement finally began)
- The father was oblivious to the good Samaritan approaching from behind and disarming him
They farted around, shot some shells, went to the place to check it out, bla, bla, bla.
And of course the media making this out like Seal Team 6 level of planning.
