Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•If you feel the US has been kind to you, youre probably in the category of people who got us into this mess. I dont think its wrong to embrace the chaos.
35·24 days agoThe politics that support minorities and marginalized groups in America still throw untold millions of people into the furnace abroad.
You could argue that supporting a particular US government throws fewer people into the fire, but
youryou’re still choosing who deserves to be saved.

3·25 days agoIf you look closely, there appears to be a “Bren” type LMG on the floor and something that kinda resembles a “sten” smg propped up against the dresser. I suppose these are replicas or they’d been the in the headline.
The Luddites were an early form of direct action of working people against the ownership class. They were also an early example of workers rights movement being crushed by State violence.
It’s discouraging that their history in popular understanding is 1000% from the perspective of said ownership class.

31·28 days agoIt’s really sad when non-believers don’t value other’s freedom to believe what they want. It seems hypocritical. Citing Muslims as an example of Chinese religious freedom is either dishonest or ignorant.

317·29 days agoI’m suspicious of an article about advanced robotics without any description or depiction of said robots. Humanoid robots are for advertising brochures. They’re impractical for almost everything.
This is some anecdote from executives jotted down by journalists who never got near these factories.
Not saying its fake, just lazy and incurious journalism.
His company DevDroid makes remotely controlled machine guns, that use AI to automatically detect people and track them. Because of concerns over friendly fire, he says they don’t have an automatic shooting option.
“We can enable it, but we need to get more experience and more feedback from the ground forces in order to understand when it is safe to use this feature.”
That’s some real Dr. Strangelove logic in the wild. Can’t let robots kill people until it’s safe.
The concept of a bloodline is incoherent.
Since the number of direct ancestors doubles every generation you go back, individual lineage is closer to a bowl of spaghetti than a family tree.
Every generation you go back, you share less and less genetic markers. You share exactly 50% of your DNA with each parent, about 25% with each grandparent etc. Eventually you’ll find a direct ancestor with whom you share no DNA markers. It’s 12 generations back, on average.
So, go back a few hundred years, and you’re not genetically related to anybody. Go back a thousand, and everyone’s list of ancestors is indistinguishable.

How come we never got a system64?
I had to switch to Linux because it wasn’t presented with any option besides Microsoft when I learned how to computer.
Why is freedom of speech and thought always boil down to “let’s hear the Nazi out”.
Bigotry is not a minority or suppressed idea. It’s quite popular and regularly promoted. It’s on all the media. Nazis are not the victims of oppression, but they should be.

I’m not trying to whatabout. But it is interesting. I think this is why liberals keep comparing Trump to “communism”. They don’t have an understanding of the ideology, instead they define “communism” as stuff China does.

Whenever anyone says Chamberlan “gave up” Czechoslovakia I ask one simple question: What was he supposed to do? He could have declared war, like the lion Churchill did for Poland. But I’ll remind you that the only thing England sent to Poland was thoughts and prayers. Followed by over a year of “phony” war.
Look at a map. You’ll notice that Czechoslovakia is quite far from England. With fucking Germany in between!
The whole Chamberlan meme is just right-wing propaganda to delegitimize diplomacy. It only makes sense if you don’t think about it.
