Where did you grow up? I was in 4th grade in Fairfield county and we had soooo many stories like that, both tragic and miraculous. Missed trains, traffic, sick kids, but also people that otherwise wouldn’t have been there but for a thing that day, interview, meeting. Thankfully our elementary school did an amazing job with a media blackout, teachers that couldn’t remain composed were swapped for those that could, we were all given a sheet to bring home explaining that we hadn’t been told anything yet. But it really quickly became obvious that something terrible had happened, kids getting picked up for no reason, every fire truck in town screaming down the highway, the fucking jets flying over. Apparently the highschool didn’t do a good job containing things and tons of kids just left, some to try to get to the city where their parents worked. Didn’t learn about that until years later. I remember standing on the beach the next day watching the smoke rise over Long Island Sound

I’m trying to remember something big before 9/11. I was 9 years old and I feel like I should remember at least one news story before then, but I guess that’s basically the first thing that got enough attention to really leave an impression. Not to mention literally everything changing after that

I’m still South of the border, I only meant in a digital sense that .ca allowed me to join, partly because they are the closest server to me physically afaik, but mostly that they seem the most level headed of the bunch. To everyone jumping on the dog pile, at least he is trying to make a difference, an objectively positive change for the people of Maine. I live here, I trust that he is not the same person he was when he served because DECENT PEOPLE ARE CAPABLE OF GROWTH AND CHANGE. I feel like if you were there unmasked you gave implicit consent for your face to be photographed. Obviously there will be press, and just normal people taking pictures. This wasn’t Portland after curfew, it’s a suburban Saturday morning.

I don’t know if I would stop working, between my wife and I we currently make a little bit more than that both working full time.

But my mental health would just go through the roof, almost all of my anxiety and depression is rooted in financial instability because I am shit poor at saving and was more interested in skiing than college.

Being able to work part time when I need a break and not fall behind the stupid money driven eat race, I think I would be a lot healthier and happier.

So I am being called a Nazi apologist for asking why my sort of maga uncle should be put against the wall and shot. Am I not a pure enough leftist because I know and care about people that have been swept up by the propaganda machine, and hope for an outcome for them besides extermination?

It’s really disheartening to hear the people I would fight for and alongside, those I consider myself aligned with, so callously and vehemently wish for the death of such a significant portion of our countrymen.

Harder still is to have my commitment to something better for our country than blatant capitalist corruption questioned because I don’t blindly wish violence on the people I disagree with. You should consider yourself very lucky if you don’t have any family or friends that are seemingly lost to the hate machine, and have some compassion for the rest of us that aren’t so fortunate.

If somebody has something better to say that “Nazi Apologist”, and has some idea of how we might begin mass deradicalization, I am very interested in that conversation. If all you want to do is downvote me and sling an easy insult without considering what I am bearing my heart to say, that’s fine, it’s what I have come to expect.

Why? Why not try to avoid violence as much as possible?
