The first-ever measurements of the ethanol content of fruits available to chimpanzees in their native African habitat show that the animals could easily consume the equivalent of more than two standard alcoholic drinks each day, according to researchers at the University of California, Berkeley.

I know we evolved to handle ethanol, but thought it was a recent thing, since the invention of beer. Weird.

Yes, I understand we didn’t evolve from chimps.

We did evolve from a common ancestor idk what you are on about. You were not intelligently designed in god’s image, but evolved from monkeys. Chimps being perhaps the closest relative surviving.

We evolved from a common anscestor to monkeys and great apes (a class in which we belong). We are not, and did not, evolve from monkeys.

What do you suppose our common ancestor must have looked like? A dragon with wheels?

Not like them condescending fools that say we come from monkeys, that ain’t my heritage! Is that your heritage?

But people are primates that evolved from primates, whether monkey is misused in terminology referring to all primates or nor.

Right. In other words, we didn’t evolve from chimps.

Intelligently designed? I am just not you guys.

We came from the same ancestor as chimps. Just as birds came from dinosaurs.

I think the ability to metabolize ethanol with alcohol dehydrogenase is a separate, more recent thing. But a lot of the tree of life gets buzzed in various ways! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recreational_drug_use_in_animals
